Tomorrow Oct. 15 is the opening of elk season in our area.....
« on: October 14, 2009, 02:26:04 PM »
;)Tomorrow the15th is the opener of elk in our area. Most of the units open here, and it is like no other opener... :o  Today was a study stream of trucks, campers, rv's, heading to the mts. to pursue elk. Almost all had at least one fourwheeler, most had several. Some of the fourwheelers on the back of small pickups looked rather stupid.. The fourwheeler looked bigger than the truck. :o
Also there would be a piece of junk truck hauling a new fourwheeler.....
Anyway, I have my pack in the little pickup, no fourwheeler, my extra ammo in the cases behind the seat. Lots of extra rope is located in the back, and the game carrier is in place as it has been since antelope opened a mth ago.
This afternoon, I put the bipod on the .340, checked the ammo pouch. This will be my main rifle for elk tomorrow. It is shooting 225 grain Accubonds or Part. over IMR4350.  For a spare, I got out my old .300 Win. for it I have 165grain Serria HPBTS over a max. charge of Re 22. If it were my primary rifle, it would have 200 grain Nosler Part. But I have killed lots of elk with the Serria bullet. Hopefully the rain will stop, and it will be a nice day.... ;)

You have a great and safe hunt!!
Which area are you going in? I hunted area 100 a bit and then from Farson to South Pass and on up to Meadow Lake above Boulder, Wy. A few years I skipped into Bondurant. Took a big 5x5 off Monument Ridge in '90. Just below the fire tower and above the beaver flowage.

REPORT will be due! LOL

Had a special any elk early season tag near Pinedale. I hunt alone. First day ran into 4 wolves, way too close, less than 20yds from me. They were waiting for me. That was enough. I got out of there. Went back a couple days toward end of season. No luck.

I hope your luck/skill works better for you than it did me. The hot weather killed us, in addition to being bone dry. Good luck my friend.
