They are great for kids. I had that in mind for the one I bought. Open sights are ok if you smash your cheek down or have a smaller profile like a child. Using a bead sighted shotgun however takes A LOT to get down into the stock enough to sight correctly. Works perfect with scoped barrels though. The one I got DID NOT come with the removable rubber butt pad and had a loose wobbly fit to the frame. I repaired it it that putty "weld" stuff and it works fine now. An added benefit is when a youth shoots it fully collasped it is shorter than the youth stocks, and when an adult shoots it it only takes a second to adjust. The forearm that comes with it has a very wide channel and a 410 or UL looks lost in it but is has worked very well in holding good zeros on multiple barrel swaps. Good luck.
