Sent to H&R
« on: October 18, 2009, 04:06:34 PM »
I packed up my SB1 .357/.44 frame to send to H&R.  I'm having it fitted for a 22" 20 gauge barrel, another .357 barrel, and a walnut TDC stock set.  I hope that I will see it again this year.

Me too, did you ask if they had em all in stock? Not that it will make a lot of difference, they could have em now and be out tomorrow.  :-\

Good luck,

Tim

I'm willing to wait.  I haven't called them.  The stock set and shotgun barrel are the things I want the most.

That's pretty common.  The bluing is very thin and poorly done.  I wraped my receiver in a paper towel after giving it a liberal coating of Break-Free CLP and then I dropped it in a Zip-Lock bag.

Use a good protectant like BreakFree CLP as Swampman suggested and worrying about rust won't be an issue, I'd say getting a rusty firearm back was the owner's fault, not H&R's.  ;)

perhaps you didn't understand, the new barrel that h&r put on the gun had rust on it. i'd say getting a new rusty firearm back was the fault of the factory. perhaps the factory should use a good protectant like BreakFree CLP as Swampman suggested.

What you thought was rust probably was protectant.  It's brown & comes off with WD-40.

I've never got one back rusty, but as Swampman stated, the grease or whatever they put on them is nasty stuff, and the bluing process will stain patches brown for quite a while until it's been cleaned many times, do a little research on bluing, it's just controlled rusting, you'll find it in the bores as well since they don't plug the bore before they blue them, so the bore gets blued too, you'll get brown patches which appears to be rust, but it's not like a truly rusted bore. I have a sectioned barrel that Larry sent me that clearly shows the bluing in the bore.

I called today and they said they were waiting on the stock set.  It is back ordered.

Did they have both of the barrels in stock?

It shipped UPS on the 4th of Nov.  I'm thinking it will get here on Monday.  I was hoping to have longer to save up my spending money so the wife wouldn't get out of sorts. ;D

It came back today.  The TDC walnut stock is really awesome looking with lots of figure.  Everything seems fine.  They gave it a great trigger job and I didn't even ask.  The old trigger was in the box and there was no charge for a new one.  The TDC walnut stock will probably end up on my .45-70.  It has the solid Remington type recoil pad which looks great. ;D

H&R customer service is great.

Nana's is gonna kill me when the MC bill comes.  Why do they charge sales tax?
