Police Say Woman Killed Baby, Ate Brain

SAN ANTONIO (July 27) - The scene was so gruesome investigators could barely speak: A 3½-week-old boy lay dismembered in the bedroom of a single-story house, three of his tiny toes chewed off, his face torn away, his head severed and his brains ripped out.
"At this particular scene you could have heard a pin drop," San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said Monday. "No one was speaking. It was about as somber as it could have been."

Otty Sanchez, 33, was charged with capital murder in the death of her son, Scott Wesley Buchholtz-Sanchez. Police said Sanchez told them the devil told her to kill her baby and that she ate parts of his body, including his brain.
Officers called to the home early Sunday found the boy's mother, Otty Sanchez, sitting on the couch with a self-inflicted wound to her chest and her throat partially slashed, screaming "I killed my baby! I killed my baby!" police said. She told officers the devil made her do it, police said.
Sanchez, 33, apparently ate the child's brain and some other body parts before stabbing herself, McManus said.
"It's too heinous for me to describe it any further," McManus told reporters.
Sanchez is charged with capital murder in the death of her son, Scott Wesley Buccholtz-Sanchez. She was being treated Monday at a hospital, and was being held on $1 million bail.
The slaying occurred a week after the child's father moved out, McManus said. Otty Sanchez's sister and her sister's two children, ages 5 and 7, were in the house, but none were harmed.

Police said Sanchez did not have an attorney, and they declined to identify family members.
No one answered the door Monday at Sanchez's home, where the blinds were shut. A hopscotch pattern and red hearts were drawn on the walk leading up to the house.
Sanchez's aunt, Gloria Sanchez, said her niece had been "in and out" of a psychiatric ward but did not say where she was treated or why. She said a hospital called several months ago to check up on her.
"Otty didn't mean to do that. She was not in her right mind," a sobbing Gloria Sanchez told The Associated Press on Monday by phone. She said her family was devastated.
Investigators are looking into Sanchez's mental health history to see if there was anything "significant," and whether postpartum difficulties could have factored into the attack, McManus said.
Postpartum depression and psychosis have been cited as contributing factors in several other cases.

Someone this sick and depraved needs to be removed from society.  I don't mean locked up for life in a public ran institution either.

I don't go along with this idea that someone being crazy means they can not be held responsible for their actions.  No if they kill someone they need to pay, just like John Mohammid paid.  His attorney said he was crazy, tough he got what he deserved.  I feel this woman should get the same thing.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Geeez! That was hard to read. Hard to believe that another human being did this.

I wouldn't call her a human being after doing something like that.

That's a good point Spanky. That thing is more like a monster.

I'm trying to find value in it as discussion on a thread on GBO forums? For the life of me, and I cannot see a point to do so. ???

No more crazy than a Houston woman drowning her 5 kids in the bathtub. Some folks are just nuts and/or brutal. I guess the shock effect ends after a while.

I'm really not being a critic intentionally, it is just that I have seen all that in real time, and although the description is graphic to say the least, it does nothing to conger up the actuality of seeing it first hand, nor the feelings.
Although I have discussed in an over-view sort of way, some past experiences, there are some doors I do not force open. This sort of thing is one of them, and I see no good in the details, for discussion. Some victims of such things should have their dignity preserved. See you guys later. ;)

Maybe, but something else replaces it, and it does not end. To think so Mohawk, one is only fooling one's self.

Later my friend, and some where else.

Very sad indeed. Let's not forget that mental illness is just that, "an illness". It is practically impossible for most of us to understand mental illness, I sure don't, however as bad as this seems the woman obviously is very ill. No one should take an innocent life, especially a child. Would the mother have acted the same if she was not mentally ill? I think not. Should she punished for being ill? I believe the mentally ill need to be treated for their illness, not harmed. If they are untreatable then they should be institutionalized and cared for as any other ill person. In my opinion we shouldn't discriminate anyone because of an illness they have no control of.

anyone that has done something of that nature does need to be removed from this earth. there is no redemption no rehabilitation for these types. society used to execute them in all parts of the world. now because of this "PC" crap and new found understanding..we make excuses. they were mistreated as a child they were unders the influence of drugs or booze or maybe both. someone harrassed them and made them angry...the children kept crying..and on and on making them somehow the poor victim not responsible for their actions.

we need to recognize this and execute them no matter how sad their side of the story is. society has the right to live in peace without the threat of these types around them or their family.

Wish I hadn't read this thread. Pretty much ruined a very nice day for me. I know this type of thing goes on regularly but for the life of me I can't understand how some one can do some of the things they do, especially to babies and little kids. Can't say anymore. I'm outta here.
