How does one know?

I have a t/c encore 26 bar. heavy bull bar. with a recessed crown.What i am wanting to know how do you know when it needs work done to it, because mine right at the end of the muzzle i can run my finger around it and it is real ridged.WILL this effect the acc. of the gun.THANKS

Only the shooter knows for sure.  If you have  a load that has proven accurate in this barrel previously you can shoot it, or if you've never fired this barrel you can try some different loads through it to see what it will do.  Generally, if you shoot the barrel and it doesn't give the accuracy you believe it capable of a quick look (before the rifle is cleaned) at the muzzle end will show if the crown is faulty.  It will show powder residue in an uneven pattern around the muzzle, or on one side only.  Just remember this isn't some exact science but it is an indicator of a messed up crown.

Look closely at the crown with a magnifying glass in good light. If you see any burrs, it needs to be recut. If it is symetrical and burr free, you're probably just fine. The ridges you feel are most likely the rifling. TC cuts a flat crown on most barrels with no chamfer, so the rifling is right to the end.
