I got in my stand just before daylight, it's in an old forked maple overlooking an old grown up field. I carried my old '77 vintage 336A with 24" barrel. It's topped with an old Elpaso made Weaver K4-1 scope that a friend of mine gave me for a bottle of Sweets 7.62 bore cleaner. The sling was made for me by another good friend of mine. I just got the scope and sling this year so I had to let my friends know that I was using them!
David Clements rechambered the barrel to 30-30 Acklet Improved a few years ago and it's a sweet shooter.
About 20 minutes after daylight I spotted this buck heading toward me and when he was about 50 yards away I sent a 170 grain Remington RNCL @ 2400 fps right into his shoulder. The 8 point buck was angling toward me and the bullet penetrated 27" and I found it just under the hide at the off-side hindquarter. He ran about 40 yards and piled up.
My opening day was short, but sweet!
