.280 Scores!
« on: November 14, 2009, 08:33:35 AM »
Pictures to follow, About nine this morning, He was heading away from me at about 150 yards, Just had a small window to shoot. I shot and hit him in the left rear leg it came out and entered his ribcage taking out a lung, He went about fifty yards and was down, I gave him a mercy shot and that was it. Huge eight point rack 2"+ at the base 20" spread guessing about 185lbs hanging biggest deer I've ever shot and the Handie was flawless. Nice opening morning. ;D

Sounds good ! My favorite rifle is a 280 next to the big gun it is not a handi but a great caliber, what bullet did you use in your . 280? 185 lb deer are the Norm up north here. I like to to tease my family in Texas about what they call a big Deer!Ya I do Western count so I tell them I took a monster 5 point and they say what? Then I remember 5=10 and 4 = 8 But really who cares it's more about the fun hunting it and a Spike can also = a trophy. But A 185 lb deer is big no matter what.Hope you enjoy the sausage and steaks!

Bob congrats on the Buck brother ,

They were a little more elusive for me and the missus today... but then again there is always tomorrow  ;D

The other half took the 44 mag handi this evening , tomorrow i'll carry the 44 mag and she will take the 243 youth and see what can happen cap'n  ;)

And yeah 180+ isnt a bad size at all , I would like to know how thick the pigs are up there in the north ?? Cause i know they rock in TEXAS lol Just poking a little fun Austin ... I know the northern areas especially Canada can grow some freakishly huge bucks..

Good luck with the hunting boys,

Congrats on the buck. My daughter and I went out 2 weeks ago, and they came out the night before season opened and failed to see any deer that morning. After not hunting for over 10 years myself, my 10 year old daughter decided to hunt, so I got her a .223 handi, which should sport a 260 Rem. next spring, if all goes well, and we get the time this winter to build it up. These little rifles are addictive.

Way to go Bob.  I love the 7mm's for most game.  I got rid of my 7 Mags cause I didn't see much difference in it and the 280.  Glad this year is going better for ya.  DP
