New barrel for my Browning BLR ?
« on: December 19, 2009, 08:05:49 PM »
I have a Browning BLR model 81, bought around 1980.
I want to change my barrel, and maybe change the caliber for a 7mm-08.
Where i can find a barrel for my rifle ?
Is it very hard/expensive to do it ?
thank's

I agree that if they make what you want trading would be cheaper. I'm not sure but don't think Z-Hat is still in business. Fred is Production Manager for McGowen Precision Rifle Barrels now. They are soon to be sponsors of this site. I'm still waiting on the payment to begin their banners.

Current GBO Sponsor SSK Industries www.sskindustries.com does this kinda work for sure and I'm not certain but think that Match Grade Machine another GBO sponsor does also.

I'm not certain if McGowen only makes barrels or installs them as well. Once I get payment I'll look into just what it is they are doing so I'll know when to recommend them.

I had a pre-81 blr rebarreled to 260rem a few years ago. It cost close to 500$ with the shipping. You could buy a 7/08 but they didn't chamber them in 260 so a rebarrel was my only option.  :) If you want to pursue this I can give you the contact info on the guy that did mine.

I dont know yet what i'm going to do.
I have few caliber but no 7mm-08, and that's a caliber i'd like to try.
I have my BLR collecting dust in my safe, the barrel is very good
but you know what it is ! héhé ....
I like all the rifle i possess right now, and i dont want to sold one, for another one, they all have great value and story in my heart.
But i cant really afford to buy a brand new good one.
Anyway, i gonna still thinking about it.
Thank's for all the reply, and sorry for my poor english,
it's my second language.
Take care .

Hey some around here have as much trouble with it and it's their ONLY language.  ;D

If ya can't afford a new rifle ya likely can't afford to rebarrel the one you have.
