It doesn't surprize me, because most people who buy a 30-06 want a rifle that takes advantage of a great round with a plaform that will work flawlessly with minimal effort from the shooter, no matter what level of experience.

I think a Handi, although in the hands of an experienced shooter is just as deadly, but the average guy may find a Handi in that caliber more of a challenge, and not as much a pleasure to shoot, day in and day out.
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Most Popular Cartridges

Yes this is hard because it is based only on “posters”.  I will run it until 30 Nov, which will give us a 30 day sample.  Also most postings are hunting cartridges this time of year, maybe I will do it again 6 months from now to get target/varmint caliber postings and add results to this month numbers.  I think “Dixie Dude” is right too, a lot of people buy these guns as “Starter” guns.

Popular does not mean Best:  Hard to get a “vote” if the cartridge is not a production gun (Fred’s 257 Roberts proves this).

I'm not surprised about the .45-70 being on top, either.  My home state, Louisiana, allows Handi-Rifles and calibers over .35 for the primitive firearms deer season, so they've sold a ton of .45-70s in this state alone the last several years.

I've had a standing order with my friendly neighborhood gun dealer for a .30-30 Handi since before Labor Day.  I check with him once a week or so and he hasn't been able to find one through his distributors.  I checked gunbroker last week and there were only two .30-30 handis in the listings there.  They mist be really popular because folks who have them don't seem to want to sell them.
