She said yes!

Every once in a while I ask my daughter if she wants to go shooting. I gave her my skeet-shooting-is-fun pitch and she said yes! So I'll take her out shooting. Hopefully we can do it regularly.

Cool, hope you both have a great time and it becomes a regular thing.  How old is your daughter?

I'm always looking for things that my now 10 year old daughter and I can do together just to spend time with her.  We've gone shooting, bicycling, canoeing, play basketball and put-put golf.  They grow up so fast and I'm afraid there will come a day when she's a teenager that hanging out with 'the old man' won't be cool anymore.

She's 15. Sometimes I convince her to go rabbit hunting with me. We take the gun, but I promise not to shoot anything. It's fun to watch our dog hunt. She loves that dog.

My son will go skeet shooting with me sometimes, and he likes it when we do. He just has other things to do that he likes better, so I let him do those things when he's busy with school.

That's great Questor and Brett. My 7-year-old chomps at the bit to go shooting. She loves it. We had some super fun last Tuesday blowing up the Halloween pumpkins that were still sinisterly lurking around outside on the deck, suggesting and threatening their evil upon us. ;) She carried all those pumpkins down range and set them up in front of the target board. Together, we blew them to smithereens, she with her CZ Scout, and me with a .223 Rem for effect. ;) I'm going to get her into skeet shooting when she's a little older. She is still a little small in reach for the Scout, but can shoot it quite well using rests off the bench.

Although it may not be the best fit in the world for a youngster shooting skeet, finances may dictate a pump shotgun when the time comes. Consider the Mossberg youth model pump shotgun in 20 gauge. I started the kids with one and it was a superb gun at an excellent price. It comes with screw in chokes, has amibidextrous tang safety. Ours was incredibly accurate with Rottweil rifled slugs. And it's just a decent gun for the money. I was really impressed. Remington makes a more expensive youth model that isn't nearly as good in terms of value for the money. When the kids outgrew it, it sold quickly. (It's tapped for a Weaver scope mount too. We used it for deer and upland hunting.)

When my son and I go shooting he uses my over/under 12 gauge target gun. It's more fun for him to not have to worry about learning to shuck shells with the pump for skeet. But for trap, any gun will do. That's one of the advantages of trap.

Thats great your Daughter's wants to go shooting. Their are so many children today, that are taught guns are evil, because their Dads don't spend time to teach them and take them shooting.  No matter what the activity is, the most valuable thing a father can give their daughter or son is their time.
