rick, I looked over a pre 81 browning madazine last night. The only way is to tilt the cartridge carrier but I could not find the angle that would let it slide out.

I've hunted with these guns since 1971 and ,to be honest, never felt the need to disassenble one for cleaning. Somethings should be left alone. I would just put a little gas in a coffee can and add a little 30wt. Soak the mag in it and brush out anything loose. Turn it upside down to drain and call it good. When the gas evaporates there will be a coating of oil left to protect the inside of the mag. You can wipe off the exterior with a oilly rag when you wipe off the gun.

thank you for your reply, I tried to take one apart and just couldnt figure out how to do it, It went together somehow and i thought it had to be able to dissassemble for cleaning, I guess I was wrong, I used brake cleaner on it and lightly oiled it with clp, my spring feels weak I guess it cant be replaced, anyway thanks again, and  yeah I do enjoy the blr its my favorite lever action, it appears that numrich arms might sell a replacement spring for it but I'll try to find another mag, happy hunting , rick
