What is the Pure Michigan Hunt?
« on: October 31, 2009, 11:48:49 AM »
Any of you Michigan Hunters apply for this?

From the Michigan DNR:

The Pure Michigan Hunt is a new multi-species hunting opportunity. Three lucky hunters will be selected by random drawing for the opportunity to purchase special hunting licenses for elk, bear, antlerless deer, and turkey (spring and fall seasons). Licenses will be valid during any open season for each of these species during the 2010 license year. Pure Michigan hunters will also have first selection of hunting sites during the reserved hunt period at any managed waterfowl area.

"We view this as a excellent way to showcase the hunting opportunities available in Michigan," says DNR Director Rebecca A. Humphries. "This is the hunting experience of a lifetime, one that hunters will never forget."

Interested hunters may purchase as many Pure Michigan Hunt applications as they wish from March 1 - December 31. The fee is $4 per application. Winners will be contacted in January after the application deadline and will be authorized to purchase Pure Michigan licenses for the upcoming hunting seasons, starting with the spring turkey season.

The Pure Michigan Hunt is available to both Michigan residents and nonresidents; however, under current Michigan statute, successful nonresident applicants are not eligible to purchase an elk license.

That's the first I heard of this... the elk hunt alone is mighty tempting.

I signed up for it just one time.  The odds look really loooooooong to put much money in it.  I make my annual 4.00 donation for the elk tag, and If I can just live to 3 or 4 hundred, I might even get one ::)

petemi,

Sounds like getting an Elk tag in Michigan is about as likely as getting a Bear tag in Wisconsin.

I think its a joke.  You can get almost every license they offer right over the counter.  Even bear is not that hard if you go 2nd or 3rd hunt.  Granted the Elk license would be nice....but then you have how many people going with you and basically telling you what to shoot?  Perhaps that has changed over the years.

I have a real hard time with our DNR's positions and even more with the NRC.
