Stranger in Tn
« on: December 09, 2009, 06:10:55 AM »
I'm visiting my Daughter in Whites Creek, Tn. About 20 mi. NW of Nashville. Very similer hilly area just like my home back in Pa. Thinking of Deer hunting here next year. I think this is Davidson and Chatman countys??
Anybody hunt this area for Deer?? I was going to take a walk in the woods but I didn't bring any blaze orange clothing with me!! Just wonder how the Deer population is here??

There are lots of deer  in that area.  I don't know when you are coming down but right now it is bow only and gun opens back up on Dec 19 and will remain open until Jan 10.  You definately need to wear blaze during this time.  You may find that no one is hunting that area in which case the hunting should be really good for you next year.

Thanks for the replys. I don't plan on hunting here this year. I would have liked to walk around if I'd have brought some blaze orange hat and jacket with me.
I havn't seen a hunter around here yet!! My Daughters house is in a pretty nice wooded and hilly area.
Is spotlighting for Deer legal here in Tn?? I don't mean to shoot them, just to see if there's any around. In Pa you can't have any kind of weapon in the vehicle and you can't do it during Deer season. Guess I should go read the Tn hunting book.

Well, I just read that there's no spoting allowed in TN. OK, I have no problem with that as I don't do it in Pa.
Also read that NO predator calls are allowed at night for anything!! Calling for Coyote at night is very popular in a lot of states including PA???

If you are here now then it is bow season and you probably won't see too many hunters and they won't be wearing orange because its no required during bow season.  Go ahead an walk around. Don't worry about wearing orange.  Gun season starts back in a week.  Thats when you will know whether anyone hunts the area or not.

Wow, one daughter in Whites Creek and one in Slidell.  Makes having kids a little more worth while.  There is a resturaunt in Slidell that I go to whenever I am in the area.  I think its called the Boiling Point.  They have a great dungeness crab and shrimp boil.  My wife and I split it every time we go there.  For 2 people you get one big crab and two pounds of shrimp, tators, and corn on the cob.  Its cooked in a spicy crab boil and it is good.  The owner said his brother owns a shrimp boat and he gets it fresh daily.  After eating there, everytime I get a crab and shrimp boil somewhere else, its always a disappointment.
