I have a Vanguard, Classic II model in a 7RemMag. It is very accurate and weighs the "advertised" 7 pounds 14 oz, which makes it comfortable to shoot. The Weatherby version is not only better finished than the Howa, but the action smoother to operate than its "counterpart". I have a 3X9 Leupold Vari-II mounted on mine in Millett "scalloped" bases and rings.
The Vanguard has the minimum length barrel (IMO) for the "magnum" cartridge of 24", which takes it out of the .270 Winchester power range when used with 160gr or heavier bullets. While most reloading manuals have decreased it capabilities to that of a .280 Remington, it has a greater capacity and performance potential than its smaller cased "cousins".
