MGM bbl 44 Mag what taper?
« on: November 14, 2009, 07:12:26 AM »
I am having MGM make a 44 Mag bll in 14"SS.
What taper is better, full bull or carbine taper.?
I know the tapered bbl will be lighter.
Do I need the full bull for the weight?

My personal preference would be Full Bull as the 44 mag  kicks pretty hard even in the  Win. 94 or marlin lever action.  Also I think you will get better accuracy with the heavier barrel.

I have one and would suggest a muzzle brake. I have the removable one but in 10 months time only took it off once. you may not need removable-I didn't but it was a new toy for me and I went for it.

I also got the regular taper-so the brake offset the need for full bull. very nice shooting barrel. My newest barrel is a 357 max with built in brake-super sweet barrel, extremely accurate(if I do  my part) and fun to handload for and shoot.
If you go to http://www.tonysforendsandgrips.net/ that is my custom forend with the same barrel and I have a grip exactly like the one in the pic.. definitely added to the accuracy of the barrel. good luck

I'd get the factory taper.  That way you don't have to mess around with customizing a forend.  Also, the full bull is pretty heavy.
