I 've always had good luck with H335 in 223. No need for a mag primer.  KN

over the weekend with the 35 gr Vmax. I was shooting over a chrono and got fairly good velocities. One thing puzzled me, it seemed some rounds had more substantial muzzle flash than others. The chrono data didn't vary appreciably when this happened but the flash was certainly different. I think H335 and AA2230 are very close. The reason I say this is because I have some PSA (from GIBRASS) and Jeff (@ GIBRASS) to use AA2230 or H335 load data. I've tried IMR 4198 for 52 gr but not the lighter stuff.

My 14" factory barrel really shines with Benchmark under 40 grain V-maxes.  It does pretty well with 40 grain BTs as well.

I have grown quite fond of H-4198SC with 40gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips. This combo has provided me the highest velocity of any powder I have tried with this bullet, and the accuracy has been outstanding.

However for really high volume shooting, when low barrel heat, low recoil, and low muzzle blast is needed I like the same bullet loaded with Blue Dot. Velocity in my barrel is about 300 FPS less than with H-4198SC, but the accuracy is still quite good.

IMR 4198 is worth trying. It's the best powder for my Contender 221 fireball. You may want to try Speer 50 grain TNT bullets. They're a lot cheaper and they're excellent unless your velocities are going to be more than 3500fps.
