25-35 Encore shines today
« on: December 01, 2009, 09:21:34 AM »
I shot both of these today with my Encore in 25-35. The 6x Nikon Monarch is a great scope for this caliber. Reloads of 100 gr corelokts and IMR 3031 did the job. Called the cat in early to 9 feet and had to scare him off so I could shoot him. I got too caught up in the calling and watching the cat. The buck came up a fenceline to a ladder stand I just set yesterday after an unsuccessful encounter with a super buck in that location yesterday about midday. The barrel is a TC custom shop barrel and the stocks are from Stocker Gunstocks. I have a much nicer set of wood from them on a 9.3x74r Encore but I am still working on loads for it. I hope to use it for the late season antlerless days.

Well now, that is a productive day of hunting.  Looks like you have some skinning / butchering to do.  I haven't any experience with the 25-35 but if results are any indication I'd say you have a fine rifle for your style of hunting.

Whats with the shirt sleeve weather for hunting???   I don't see any snow on the ground????

Here in SE Oklahoma we rarely have snow for regular deer season.  Occasionally we have it for the the antlerless season in late December.  I did kill a big 130# doe once in the snow here....dragging was easy as could be...
