38/55 load ?
« on: November 29, 2009, 05:38:24 PM »
Looking for a 38/55 load with a 240 grain Lazer Cast bullet and 3031 powder.. Heard 27grains is a good starting point. Any thoughts?

I never tried it, but it autta work OK... (Didn't check your charge weight)

My lite loading for this caliber is less than 10.0g of UNIQUE. Accurate and relyable.

I use IMR 3031 in my 38-55 and I would say it is a good starting point with that powder.
I load 33.00 in my 38-55 but use a 255 FP soft bullet flat base Sarco mould 4 grease groove bullet
I was out yesterday throwning some lead at a 50 yard target it will shoot a 2" group all day with this load and no barrel leading at all with peep sights.

+1

I've had great results with 3031.

I only target shoot with my H&R 38-55 so my loads are not what I would load if I were to use it hunting.  However,  I use 18 gr of AA 5744 with a lee 38-250 RF bullet sized to .379".  This load is extremely accurate giving me 10 shot groups that are around 3 inches at 200 yards.
