Bob,

Stick a knife in this and tell the unwashed newbies what Artilleryman's other videographic work is!  The rookies get so frustrated and seem to fail to understand this is all just a GAME.

About 1/28 of an arshin to an inch.  Also about 3.333 lines per inch.

I can not believe the games that you guys are playing with Gary. Maybe he needs to channel his thoughts and scan the history of this forum. It's all about the artillery, you know. Gary, do not take this post the wrong way. I'm just trying to give someone a clue.....  :D

Honestly ...and This does not happen too often , I have no clue what some of yous is talking about ?

OR else it does happen often and agian......i had no clue , unfortunatly in that case/s noone was kind enough in those instances to draw a picture in crayon to look see .

Artilleryman , I apollogize for any ignorrace on my part in being clueless , but it happens alot and I'm used to it . I meant no disrespect . 'Master and Commander' is a favorite . So is that movie based in S.C. with the balck troops who basicly get blown away ....... The movie was about black troops being trianed by a white officer and they did a bad frontal assualt . and the beach sences were all backward ,north and south

but it was a good moive .
DD ,thank you for calling me on this . I just dont watch too many movies  :-[.

Gary

eta I'm usally working on waxes or clays or bronzes or my furnace or my kiln and looking for new flask material  , reading the inet about casting writing to Dan or Carronader . Dream at night about how to invest this or that ,you know venting and all that . pouring bells their size there construction and how to do more with less .

Spud wants an 1838 cannon from his home town , I can make it @ 14 inches long w/ bell to stay within the bounds of my 30 lb limit due to the small size of my crucible , thats fine .

In a dream I relieze i need to make my burnout oven taller to accomadate a 20 inch investment and flask .

Next night I'm dreaming of ways to make due , I'll remove the hinges on my kiln and stack fire brick around the top and put the top back on to increase the over all length of my abilities ........ ;)

And my wife is in love with my abilities . And the length of them .
Too !

That one is for you Doug you unwashed clamshell of a man .

I'm a newbie but I am no clamshell .

Also , I'm busy keeping you in line , making things ,screwing them up ,then making them good then investing them and eventualy casting them in Bronze and polishing ,and chasing and wondering after all I've learned where am I on this path and how to make it better .

Tim will get his 1838 cast Bronze cannon ,it will be some time B4 it happens as I ..."may have over stepped my bounds" in even offering it at this time to him but he asked , I kinda try to reach my limits which are somewhat ...'unwashed' in their nature and are a lot further reaching than babysitting a fourm all day .

Oh the pain of it....that movie about the black troops, Gary is Glory!!! Good Movie by the way.

Here is one of a jillion links you get if you Goggle "Master and Commander" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_and_Commander:_The_Far_Side_of_the_World.

Remember I said it took two queries to get both answers and both answers are on GBO.  Well this time Google will only give you part of the answer--GBO is the go to for this question.  If I had started with GBO I would have got it in one!

The two search criteria you have are user name "Artilleryman" and Movie name "Master and Commander".  Artilleryman won't be of much  use on Google.

You could go to Artilleryman's profile and call up and read all  600 of Norms post and you will find the answer eventually.

You also can do a GBO search.  In this case search "Master and Commander"  by user Artilleryman.  You will get three posts.  Make sure "Master and Commander" is in quotes.

The answer is in those posts.

This is a good example of how to use the search feature...there is a lot of useful information on this boards and it can be found using search.

I am not going to tell you the answer...I'm still upset over Tracy making fun of my punctuation or lack there of, and I am going  to take it out on you!  :P

Sorry Gary the translation of your post hasn't come back yet from Mork and Mindy translations.

To relieve Gary of his pain, so he can get back to pounding sand in his flask.... ;D ;D ;D....Norm Gibson "Artilleryman" and Loomis Battery also helped the Discovery/History Channel make the show Artllery Games.

A discussion on the show is what introduced us to Norm.

Here are the other two posts that come up on this subject.

http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,82508.0.html This one Norm talks about how the sounds were recorded for the movie Master and Commander.

Only a passing reference is made to M & C in this one http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,85198.0.html

You haven't watched Artillery Games?

You missed a heck of show.  It ends with Lommis Battery using a Civil war era  Muzzleloading cannon with era sights taking on a Canadian Army 105 MM laser sighted field piece in a 1000 yard shooting match and the Canadians loose.

Gary you need to expand you cultural horizons and get out more.  Here is a link where you can get  Artillery Games

I think the match was rigged . I crewed a 105 and really have problems with a muzzle loading Civil War era cannon out shooting a 105 @ 1000 yards.  :-\  ???  8)

I'll bring the DVD up and you can watch it...and to be fair, the Artillery piece the Canadians were shooting was French.

The American Gun crew were very diplomatic saying with the type of explosive shell the Canadian's were using, they realy didn't need to get a direct hit to kill the target...

The howizter was putting a lot of shrapnel hits in their target and ours.  We thought that they were getting direct hits, but what was happening was their four of their five rounds just cleared the target and the shrapnel was blowing holes through the target from the back side making it look like they had made direct hits.  One of their rounds landed 3 feet in front of the target.  The program only gives us credit for 4 hits when really we hit with all five.

Photos of French 105mm Howitzer and Canadian gun crew.

Our crew checking out their gun.

Gun crew either limbering up or unlimbering.  Barrel is swiveled to the rear of the piece for travel.

Gun crew placing howitzer in position.  Wheel in background is to my limber.

This scene was staged by the director.  The Canadians were great hosts.
