Muzzleloader/Centerfire Combo Gun
« on: November 29, 2009, 09:38:07 AM »
Been looking around the internet for a couple days reading everything I can find... So far I have found the following:
Knight KP1-Found a lot of info
Traditions Outfitter-Found almost no info
T/C- Found a lot of info, cost alot too...
CAV-Optima Elite, and the new Apex

Please give my any info including where I can buy one in Mid-Missouri.  I have a Savage 110 7mm Accu Trigger that I am thinking about trading.  Thanks..

I found the CVA Optima Elite on sale for $315 out the door, so I took it.  I am new to the muzzleloading experience, so tomorrow I am going out with a local expert and have some fun...

That is a pretty good deal depending on what rifle it is. My Optima Elite is stainless with camo stock and the .50 ML barrel and a .270 barrel. I found it slightly used for $300. The ML barrel had never been shot. You will like this rifle.

There is a reason that the TC cost more......it's worth it!!  Get the best and forget the rest...Encore...Encore...Encore.

With the Optima Elite I did not have to go find a gunsmith and have the hinge pin drilled out to install a "fitted" pin which apparently most Encore rifles require. I also did not have to have any trigger work done which I understand is another little job that most Encore rifles require. I also can shoot solid lead full bore conicals which most Encores will not do. Where do I look for the "best" in a T/C?

I went with the Encore. Nothing further to add about it. The Encore and the Encore shooters will validate it's worth.

Keith Lewis, I have been shooting the Encore from the day it hit the market, never had to get a larger pin for it. I am talking thousands of rounds down the tube in my Encore. I never had trigger work done either, never seen a need for it.

Who really cares about shooting full bore lead conical's, if I want to shoot them, I would use my T/C Renegade.

If you don't like the T/C platform, then great. I did not know this is a slam T/C thread???

Why not just give your pitch about what you shoot and move on?

Redhawk: You are correct that I probably did go overboard. The guy that started this thread already said he decided on and purchased an Optima Elite and then someone came in with "forget the rest get an Encore". That was the reason I went so strong on pointing out that the Optima Elite is not a bad choice. I guess that would have been enough without bringing up problems that may or may not exist with other choices. I do have a T/C Omega which I have had for a long time. I also have a T/C Hawken so I am not totally against T/C.
