Take it easy fellas, I noticed that Bob Smith was perusing the board today; some PhD's know their ordnance very well. At any rate, in this instance it's the photo, and drawing that are significant, not the fact that the word cannonade actually means an intense and continuous artillery bombardment.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

I humbly and respectfully disagree Sir Boom!

The higher the author's academic degree...

the higher should be the degree of verbal abuse rendered in response to such id-jotic blunders!

i feel so much better now

Gee whiz Tommie, you cut me to the quick, but there's no blood, so I'm going to have to consult my humomgous medical dictionary, and try to find out why.

I hope you're not suggesting I have a PhD? just a BSc in Chemistry and post-grad qualification in Conservation. The cannon stuff is entirely self-taught.

Bob,
I would never intentionally imply that someone had earned a PhD when I didn't know for sure that they had. For shame!

It may be that the word processing software's spell checker substituted "cannonade" for "carronade" when the document was typed and it received the usual kind of "proofreading" that suffices today.

The forum spellchecker does not recognize "carronade" as a valid word.

Anytime.  I made the copies at Kinko's and was impressed with the equipment.  I put them into a huge scanner and pushed one button and the copy spits out of a separate machine.  The copies were better than the "original" copies I had; there must have been some kinda optimizing done in those machines to actually improve the quality of the images.
