Pistol Grips for Handi Rifle ?

Has any one out there ever tried or made set of pistol grips for Handie rifle . I have  a 30-30 that I have made up to suit part of my handi cap disability of haveing only one arm mt left I shoot from right shoulder I, have the rifle ported and hand load it with nosler 125 balistic tip bullets that really tamed it down no
w I'am thinking of the pistol grips so it;s more manuaverable for me, any ideas on the grips. stock just gets in the way. O' Yea! I do use a rest in my blind. Any help with this idea would help.

 I have never seen it done. But I think if you copy the grip off of a thumbhole stock, you could make it work.

Choate makes one and it works great. I have one with a 22" 20 gauge barrel mounted and it's very "Handi"....<><....

MSP, do you have a link possibly to the pistol grip?  And just to clarify, you do mean just a pistol grip right?  Not a pistol grip buttstock?

I am not sure if you want the pistol grip for the forearm,  or as a replacment for the butt stock.  If for replacing the butt stock I'd start with a (unfinished) thumbhole butt stock from Boyd's currently about $54.00 and cut off everything but the pistol grip, shape , sand and finish and you would have a laminate pistol grip. jacksrbtr46 I wonder if they make the same unfinished forestock for our Handi Rifles.  Sure would have to paint that laminated stock and my wooden forestock.  But those thumbhole stocks are great for having a good varmint rifle.  If not, I may just either order the set from Choate or the thumbhole set from H&R.

I bought one of th ATI colapasable ones for my nephew's .223 handi and it works great.  I bet it would be just what you are looking for on your .30-30.

Thanks guys! lots of info I have the cinnamon laminated stock and forearm on it now what I need is a cinnamon laminated thumb hole but stock to work with I guess? Now I'll start looking for one of these.

Boy did I open up can of worms when I started this pistol grip thing for a handie rifle. here in mich. It would be called a pistol as defined by law [under 30 in. total length. Asked local law inforcement about reg. it said they didnt know  called  atf they sent me to mich. dnr. they sent me back to local cops they said I didnt purchas it that way as a  pistol so they cant issue a perchase permit.it,s been modified and is illeagle by some means. Now does this sound like I'am getting runaround or what.What are hand gun laws if not universal and why does someone have  to suffer to make or modifyications to make his hunting shooting more pleasuable and choose what he decides whats best for him. Iam able to get a percase permit no problem and leagle to own one so whats there problem with this issue

When a receiver is sold it needs to be declared by the purchaser as a rifle or a handgun. I came across that when I was building an AK and had to declare what the receiver I was buying was going to be used on. When the receiver is attached to a barrel and stock to be sold as a rifle, it is already declared by the manufacturer to be a rifle receiver. As a rifle there is a minimum overall length of 26" and the barrel has to be at least 16" long. It would violate federal law to put a pistol grip on a rifle with a final length shorter than 26".

I'm not saying change the ways and values of your heart but turn it around on them, BE A LIBERAL, temporarily at least, use your disability and claim discrimination.  seriously, if being logical won't work, then be emotional.  if you cost someone a few days of work due to suspension, all the better.  if they're anti-gun then they deserve what they get.  you have a right to pursue the same sports as everyone else so go do it, (^^%() everyone that gets in your way.

Thompson Center guns have been thru this.  If you buy a T/C new as a pistol you can make it a rifle, but if it is bought new as a rifle you can't make it into a pistol.  (please check the laws yourself as I could be wrong and I wont be responsible for your actions)

I dont think there is a legal way to make a handi into a pistol.  If there is, I'm sure it involves permits and licenses.

It isn't worth doing it illegally.  I'm sure if there is no other way for you to hunt, you can get a permit somehow, but dont use an illegal gun.

can you shoot with a prosthetic arm... I know it's harder than it sounds (I had a foster-dad with one so I know how they work) with the recoil probably detaching it from your elbow/shoulder but it might be doable?  just lock it up in the shooting position and it'll just be a brace maybe workable too.  I don't know if a stiff arm sticking out in front of you will allow you to get around outside well, or in a tree stand.... if you can still get your layers back on quick then maybe you can just put a locked/solid arm on in your stand?  like I said I know it ain't easy but you can pull some strange things off if you must... and it seems to me that shooting a rifle one handed is tough no matter how strong your good arm has got to be from compensating for years... hit up a pro-gun doctor for a cheap prosthetic and screw a brace into it to lock it up tight, make sure it has the shoulder harness set-up (the ones that move around at the shoulder if you move your shoulder blade).

try a mcgreevy arm maybe?  it was designed by that foster-dad dude I used to know, he usually just used his stump to good effect so when he used a prosthetic it had to perform (usually just for state champion mountain bike meets, which he won quite often until in his mid-50's)

I bet that is why the Choate pistol grip that Quick posted, says on it "USE ON 22" BARREL OR LONGER" will probably make it 26" or longer
