I was down south for the week before and opening weekend.
They weren't rutting yet. Second season should be on fire though.
I did get a decent 8 pointer right before dark on Saturday though.

Wrote a few lines in the Deer Camp thread that basically said no luck here.

Getting ready to go again...I have to work 11:00am to 7:30pm on that first Thru-Fri but have the weekend off. Might get an early hunt in on the first two days but it would be quite a chore to dress n drag out and make it to work on time even if I connected early. I could have done this easily five years ago but when you pass the 50year mark which I did a couple-three years ago, one tends to slow down some.

Me, the brother-in-law and two nephews.  They managed a decent 8 point, a spike w/ kicker (call it a 3 point) and a spike.  Nothing for me.  Saw 6 does, but wanted some bone.  Problem is I'm in near Rockford and we were hunting in Pope County.  Long drive to try this weekend.  Oh well.

got a nice 8pt. this morning he was the only deer I seen. He was on the hunt for a doe. the USH done its job well over 100 yd shot (to rough terrain to step off) went in the center of the ribs came out 2 ribs from the rear stumbled 10 yds and was done.(I added a pic of a "old deer" I found also.)

Congratulations Charlie!, Nice buck and I also like seeing the clean, simple, lines of the Ultra that you used.

I will get out this weekend and hope that those bucks will still be running (certainly cold enough now)

Also enjoyed the pic of the old Deere.

Hay CharlieT. By chance that old piece of equipment was not located in Carroll Co. was it? It looked very familiar to me. Probably not but thought I'd ask.  ???

I have ended up harvesting one buck and four does so far in Mason County.

The buck fell on the morning of the Sunday of the first firearm season (28 yards for the 500 S&W) 7:12 am

A doe fell on the morning of the Sunday of the second firearm season (68 yards for the 500 S&W) 7:06 am
A doe fell that evening (79 yards to my H&R Huntsman .50) 4:14 pm

A doe was harvested last night (137 yards with my Huntsman 50 ML)  4:04 pm
A doe was harvested this morning (176 yards with my Huntsman 50 ML) 7:18 am

I was going to out this afternoon but I am not interested in the rain/windy conditions.  Its better to wait it out until tomorrow morning than to "stink" up my stands in this kind of weather.

There is still a bunch of standing corn around here as well.  Every deer has had a very thick layer of fat (an 1" or better) and most all of them had huge (as big as your fist) globs of fat just hanging out in their body cavity.

Got back yesterday from the friend's lease N of Peoria. I tagged out with my last 2 anterless tags. I also got a coyote that finally offered an O.K. 80 yrd shot. It was brushy but it slowed down in a more open area. After I shot the coyote I stayed in the stand & about 1/2 hour later a deer came by downwind of the dead coyote. I was able to get the shot as it sniffed nervously at the deceased dog. I was shooting my Knight M-L.
