I recently purchased a Savage Model 24 V-B Series, 30-30 over 20 ga. The shotgun barrel fires every time with a strong strike and indent on the primer, but the rifle only fires about 75 % of the time and the primer indents are not very deep. I purchased and installed a new firing pin and spring with no change in the performance of the rifle barrel. When I manually check the firing pin, it seems to have plenty of travel to strike the primer of a loaded shell. It seems that in the rifle fire position, the hammer may not be traveling far enough forward, or not traveling forward with enough force. Any ideas.
Thanks for any help.
