Scope Mount foe an Older Savage '99
« on: October 23, 2003, 03:19:28 PM »
Hello,
I recently bought a Savage '99;probably an "R" series.
It is drilled and tapped for a Weaver top mount,as per the 1951 Stoeger's Catalogue.
My problem is that I've never seen a '99 with a scope, except for those old Stith mounts.
Are mounts available for this model? Are they difficult to locate?
Thanks,
Frank

Kragman.....You're kidding me aren't you??????  Seems like every M99 I see for sale has a modern scope on it.  My T model came w/ filler screws in it and I had the gunsmith put on a one-piece mount.  Check with Brownell's for mounts for 99's.

savageT........Have you hugged a '99 lately?

Of all the things I've lost in my life, I miss my mind the most.

Kragman:  Weaver makes mounts for your 99 and they did have some excellent fold overs I had on mine and liked them :D    JIM

Thanks.Guys
I should have defined that I meant The the older guns, like mine. The newer ones, with tang safeties, often have scopes.
I confess that I know very little about these fine guns, except that I kinda like them. Just as I like the Winchester '94.
I'm pretty much a bolt gun Guy,and about 90% of my rifle shooting has been with them.
But the last two guns that I bought were levers, and they are getting most of my  attention lately.
