Owned a #1 years back in 22/250, and it was a very enjoyable rifle.

I found over a number of varmit rifles, that I liked a fixed 10X on them.

Had a Weaver for awhile, and it gave problems for close in targets.

Traded around and ended up with a Leupold and problem solved as it was clear/sharp at any distance.

As I said, that was awhile back.

Keep em coming!

might look for a used buckmaster 4x14 or 6x18 they show up regularly, about 2 to 3 hundred. not fantastic but the ones i have looked through are not too bad.i have leupolds 6.5x20x40 on my #1v  204 and 22-250 and the same on a browning 78 in 22-250. have a 4200 elite on winchester 1885 in 223. have cheaper scopes on several handi  nikon prostaff on a couple that i gave 90-100 for that i was pleasantly surprised with for a cheap scope with no ao. also a number of old steel weavers on knock around guns of 4 to 6 power.

I have a #1 in 22-250 that I traded for in the late '70's. I topped it with a Leupold 3X9X40 that I purchased on the way home with the rifle. I am completely satisfied with the performance of both the rifle and scope.

I bought a used 1B in 22-250 about 6-7 years ago. I put a Leoupold Vari-X II 3-9x40 on it the day I bought it and have been very pleased. Mine shoots Remington 55gr soft points (cheap green box) into 1 to 1 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards and will group Hornady 50gr V-max with 3 shots all touching. Its probably my favorite rifle. I've shot 6 coyotes with it so far this year from 40-225 yards.. It's not one of my  "deer rifles", but I've shot 10-15 deer (our lease is on a state approved management program and I usually kill around 10 deer a year) with it and none traveled over 20-30 yards. Its a great gun.   If you don't want to spring for a Leupold, I recently got a Sightron SII 3-9x 40 for $200 that seems to be a great scope for the money. I've also had good luck with a Nikon Buckmaster.

I'm seeing this kinda late but here goes anyway. I'd not wanna trust some unknown brand of optic for a super accurate long range rifle like a .22-250 is at least supposed to be.

Mine isn't a Ruger (wow what a surprise to those that know me)  ;D but rather a Remington M700 SPS Varmint. It wears a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 SF scope with mil dot reticle. I really can't think of a scope I'd rather have on it. I just wish I could afford another to replace the Elite 4200 6-24 AO that's on my SPS Varmint .223.

Aaaaa Bill, you know you love those Rugers. ;D
BSA makes an 8x32 that won't break the bank. With magnification that high, heat mirage is the pits.
