Guess what followed me home tonight??
« on: December 11, 2009, 12:49:33 PM »
A new 45/70 Handi, now this is just your standard run of the mill Handi but it is a Gun Ive wanted since I fell for my .308 Handi.  I love my 308, and it was my only deer rifle till tonight.

I do not plan on putting a scope on it for now, I like iron sights.  I was wondering however before I shoot it tomorrow, do they sight them in at the factory before shooting.  I noticed the sights do not look like they should be where they would have been from Williams. If they do sight them in does anyone know what ammo they might have used.

Thanks
Matt

Congrats Matt!!  ;) I would think they use Remington ammo since Remington owns them and the factory is located at Remington's Ilion NY site.  ;) I think they only shoot them for function.

Congrats to you.  You have made a fine choice.
You definitely will enjoy shooting this piece of history.

Thanks, i didnt figure they sighted them in anymore.  I remember being a kid and dad and granddad getting new guns and they were sighted in from the box or maybe it was luck, I dont know.  Cant wait to sling some large chunks of lead.  With me getting this as well as my CVA Frontier ML Im slinging alot of big lead.  What FUN!!

you might want to get something to mark your sights before loosening the set screws since they're all that's holding it together... the zero will move substantially if a piece doesn't fall off outright.  it happened to me, made zeroing quite a pain!

Good choice.  Mine is the only gun that has had only hand loads through it.  One look at the price of 20 rounds, and I went right to the brass and bullet section.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you
