Hey folks,
Just purchased and bramd spankin' new G2 pistol with a 22LR bbl. I am now looking for a barrel for deer bear and elk. I have considered a 14" 45/70 Govt barrel, but am unsure about the recoil. I have fired Encore handguns all the way up to and including 30-06. How will the recoil in the Contender compare? Please give me some input. Thanks for your time.

I havn't loaded for the Contender in 45/70 since the Encore came out so I'm a little rusty on remembering the data. Seems like it was limited to either trap door loads or marlin loads I don't remember which. Recoil wasn't terribly bad with the 300gr loads. The Contender load manual recomends against heavy bullets because of "increased wear and tear" on the firearm. I got rid of my Contender barrel and got one in an Encore so I could shoot full house loads. KN

congratulations! nice ain't it? i bought mine with a 22lr match barrel also. them babies shoot too! i put a 14" 30-30 ackley improved barrel on my G2 frame after i got it home.

Get you a brand spanking new .309 JDJ barrel to go with that new G2 and you'll be one happy camper and ready for anything up to elk in size.
