Why 45-70

Things to consider, if you want the 45-70 to be shot with open sights, you wont be able to do that with the monte carlo stock.  My guess is that your 270 may have that style of stock.  Next, if you want the 45-70 in the long version (which I recommend) you will have to pay a lot for the sights that come with the Buffalo Classic.  Next thing to consider, (do you see where I am going here) ,  the frame on a BC is case hardened (good lookin) and the stock on the BC is a finer quality walnut (good lookin). 

I am a proponent of getting barrels, thats the benefit of this platform compared to lever guns and most bolt guns, but the one time I would recommend getting a complete gun is for the Buffalo Classic 45-70.

My preference strickly from a cost stand point and space to a certain extent( guns safe already jam packed ) would be the additional barrel. I can live with the looks of a nikel plated receiver againts the blued barrel. My .270 handi is not the blued model and thats the frame i would like to mount the 45-70 barrel too. I also have a synthetic monte-carlo stock currently on the gun , so that might present a problem unless i decide to scope it which wouldn't be my first preference i would like to keep the 45-70 open sights. Could  I swap the stock off my pardner shotgun,  I refinished it right out of the box and it turned out amazing,  that would likely provide a good drop at the comb for the open sights on the 45-70 barrel and if i add a removable comb pad top it while using the 270 barrel i should have enough height when using the scope. my scope is sitting on low rings currently so i might be able to get away just using the wood shotgun stock all around. I think i remember reading in the FAQ's that all of the stocks and foreends interchange, but i appreciate you bringing that up i would have never thought about it until i mounted the gun for the first time

The foregoing notwithstanding, I've got one myself!  However that's only to prove that I really am in touch with my feminine side...    

Should the truth be known, real men who shoot 45 cal rifles prefer something with a bit more powder capacity.

My home state(SC) just held its annual tax free weekend on firearms. I stopped in at the Acadamy Sports store with my wife and a neighbor lady to buy some 17 cal ammo. I noticed on the gun racks that they were down to their last 45-70 in H&R handi rifles and the clerk said he did not know when or if they would ever get any more in. I had watched Quigley and had a little extra cash in hand so one thing led to another. I had always been empressed by the fact that it will take any and all game and animals in North America. I have read that with the right ammo it will take out the big game in Africa too.  I have only had mine about two weeks ,but the first time I fired it I fell in love. I have only shot the Remington 45-70-405gr rnd. in it but it is a great rnd. It does not kick that bad at all. Everyone on the small outdoor range came over to look at it. I sleep better at night knowing I have one in my safe.
