Went out to the lease this weekend. Had a madhouse getting out of town soon enough to get there before dark with a 4 1/2 hour drive but we pulled it off. I got there just after 5pm which is when my feeder goes off. A little doe shows up but is acting real spooky and directly a big white boar shows up. He has a few black spots on him. The odd thing is it looks like he is sneaking up on the yearling doe, in fact when the doe takes off he goes into a trot after it but my 35 Whelen is lined up at the front edge of his chest and goes off like it knew what it was doing. The bullet hit just 4 inches up from the bottom of the chest right behind the shoulder. Hog hits high gear and runs down hill for 50 yards or so and thats it for him. The bullet damaged the heart and lungs, he really put some blood out. The exit hole was an inch and a half across. There was just enough light to follow the blood trail right to him before dark. Measuring him he is just an inch shy of 6 feet long from his hams to his nose. Nice cutters too. Tomorrow I am quartering him up but am only putting the ribs and backstraps in the freezer, the rest of him is going to a Mexican friend that makes the best tamales in Fort Worth, I get half whatever amount he makes. I was pushing the Hornady 200 grain Spire point at a moderate 2450 fps, apparently just right for my hog hunting.
