I've been contemplating mounting one, but I read somewhere on here that it kills accuracy to mount it to the sling swivel.

could a weaver style base be drilled and tapped on the receiver just forward of the trigger guard and a weaver attaching bi-pod be attached?

it'd look similar to this: (note bi-pod location)

On one of mine I installed a swivel stud between the screw hole for mounting the forend and the henge. POA and group size did not change. I did not attach the bypod to the front stud to compare. Thats where I always rest the gun on sandbags so i figured thats where I need to put the bypod.

That's the exact way I mount my bi-pod on my 17M2 and my 223 Handi.Works super and I see no difference from shooting on a bag.Slow

Ok here's the pictures.My EBR 223 and my lammy 17M2.The bi pod does work just fine and the accuracy is still there.Just like bags.This bi pod is the 13"-23".Just right for sitting with your back against a tree or bush.Slow

That bipod set up looks really good. I might try that on my rifle to see if it makes a difference for accuracy. It's just getting to cold around here to hold onto it during the entire hunt even with gloves on i have about 1 hour before my hands start getting numb.

There is a lot of controversy about mounting bipods on H&Rs. I put one on my Hornet, using the front swivel. Shot just fine.

I mounted a sling stud just behind the forearm screw on my Ultra .223.

A bipod does not belong near the hinge, it makes the whole system wobbly with very poor weight distribution. If your gun shoots better supported at the hinge, then you better bed the fore arm so you can mount the bipod on the front sling stud.

I use both my Handi's with a bipod sometimes and have no accuracy problems having the bipod at the front stud.

A bipod at the hinge is perhaps the worse place you can put one.

I missed something, if the gun shoots better mtd at the hing " you need to change it" ???

I guess it's what you get use to.Mine shoots fine this way and I'll keep it.Doesn't seem wobbly to me either.I only use it when I'm backed up against a tree calling yotes or smacking pds or squaks.Slow

If you like to put yourself in a wobbly and awkward shooting position then by alll means carry on. Me I don't care but you will learn eventual.

When a Handi only shoots fairly well when supported under the hinge pin then there is some wrong, maybe more than one thing.
A weak latch compression spring will do it, insufficient latch engagement. A loose fore arm connection to the action. Supporting the rifle under the hinge will not cure anything nor is the lock up reliable depending on the elevation of the rifle.

Reading your smart reply I should not even respond. The trouble is when you give someone good advise that they do not understand they ridicule it.

I don't know who your saying"smart reply",but it does work for me and the OP asked the question.All I did was show what works on two different rifles of mine.YMMV.Do it or not.Slow
