Cheap little Generator Works
« on: January 29, 2010, 06:00:56 AM »
I bought a little 1000w All Power generator yesterday for backup power and camping.
My Furnace fan only pulls 500w so it is about right.

Specs linkhttp://www.allpoweramerica.com/productdetails.php?id_prd=10

It took a few pulls the first time to start. I think primer bulb would have helped but I got it started.
Ran great and tested 129v no load. Sounds like a weed eater at half throttle. :D
Every time after that was one or two pulls.
I tried a drop light first and it worked fine. Then my "buddy " at work plugs in a shop vac and made it work hard. The vac ran but it nor the generator were at full speed.

I later found out that shop vac is rated at 12.5 amps.
That's 1500w! so I am certain it will make the 800/1000w rating.

Haven't used the 12v plug yet but it showed 14.9v on a meter.

Just because the vac ran, doesn't mean the genset was putting out 12 amps...  The vac was running on low voltage...

But, i'm glad you like your genset, sounds like it will work out for you...

Yes I know. That is why it was not running full speed. The generator and vac both sounded like they could stall and second. Much longer and one of them would surely have burned up.

A little update.
Don't let this thing get flooded. It's a real bear to dry out.
Also don't fill the fuel tank clear to the top. Mine puked gas out three days in a row.

I did try it on the furnace and it runs no problem. Actually runs smoother with some load on it.
The refrigerator was a no go.
