I would like to get one with one of those green overmolded stocks and a somewhat matte barrel/action

somebody close to me had a HOWA ranchland for sale pretty good deal and it appealed to me a lot but was too compact

the rifle  that really gets me  hot and bothered is the:

FN TSR USA Rifle

Go for it, cheap ammo and fun to shoot. 223 just loves to be shot, bbl length doesn't seem to matter, I own a DPMS 16 inch and 2 Savages one with a 20 inch, the other 26 inches. All 3 shot fantastic right out of the box with the cheap Remington45 HP and the American Eagle 50 gr HP. When the wind picks up grab a 243 or 6mm they both are better than the 22-250 or swift, I've owned 3 250"s and 2 swifts.

I have a Rem 700 SPS Varmint,it shoots the Sierra 65 gr GK very well. Most of the time into the .3's for 5 shots. Has never shot over an inch at 100 yds. It stabilizes them all the way out to 300 yds. Its heavy, and that 26 inch tube gets all the fps the 223 has to offer. Probably why it stabilizes that 65 GK with a 1:12 twist. Its the easiest rifle I have to shoot. Wife loves it,kids love it,any one can shoot it easily. Not alot of bark at the muzzle, easy on the shoulder.
I have the Remington 700 SPS Varmint 223rem. too. It is very accurate and fun to shoot. My load is 25.5grs. of Benchmark with a Nolser 50gr. bts. using CCI 400 primers. I seat them at 2.340" OAL and getting .20" 5 shot groups. Took it out Saturday to our clubs annual women and youth shoot. Had them play golf with the 223rem at 100yd. and 200yds. It was fun. You should of seen the smiles when they made them golf balls disappear. ;D
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr

I use a 223 for most of the stuff I hunt, from ground hog to deer. The 223 is easy on powder, has a wide selection of bullets to choose from and I dont think I've ever seen one that didn't shoot good.
XLI the one to go with.

The 223 is my most versatile round. It is the only gun besides my Hornet that I will shoot anything in the South Alabama woods with. I shoot 55 grainers in mine (Rossi single and Ruger M77 and Mini 14). They all shoot great and will kill a squirrel with a head shot one shot and then a 400 lb hog the next. That is why I love the 223.

Live simple. Hunt Hard. Love Life.

I thank God everyday for my loving wife and all the fond memories of hunting with my Papa from a child until now.

Please take time to take a kid hunting, it will be a life long memory and blessing for both of you!
