Sending in an SB2 NM(1998) frame for a barrel

Now I know that as the FAQs stand right now, H&R will fit my new to me SB2 NM(1998) frame to low pressure shot gun barrels and 357mag and 44mag.  I am really really wanting a 357mag barrel to go with my S&W 686 and I wondered if anyone has tried to send in one of the outsourced frames for a 357 or 44 barrel recently.  Worst case scenario I will get on the phone and call and talk to someone that may or may not know what they are talking about.  Its hard to trust a customer service that is soooo far away from the service they are providing.

I don't know about outsourced frames...
but as an FYI, I just talked to customer service and they have no .357 barrels at this time.  I asked if I could send my frame in and just wait.  Guy told me not to, that they didn't know when they'd have barrels.

Kinda sucks...

Yeah I didnt figure they would have them right now.  Fortunately Christmas has tapped out my spending money so I couldn't send mine in even if I wanted to.  It'll have to wait until spring.

I'm waiting on a barrel production schedule now, the last run of 357s was Sep-Nov, Swampman just had one fitted not too long ago, they may even still have some left and Jon was given bad info, it happens regularly.  ::)  :-\

Tim,

Do you know if they will still fit a 357 barrel one of the outsourced frames?  I am guessing that since you didn't say no, that they still are.

After Tim's comment about mis-information, I thought I'd check with H&R again.  I just got off the phone with Daniel in Customer Service.

His story is that they have no .357 or .44 barrels.  They are having a
hard time getting pistol caliber barrels and are seriously considering making
them inhouse.

Currently they use an outsider supplyer.  He could not give me an honest
estimate on when they would have barrels.

Again, this sucks...

Marlin makes all of H&R's barrels, has been since 2007, H&R will be making their own barrels later in 2010, until then Marlin is making them and they have their own barrel making quotas to meet, they work H&R's in as they can, that's the main reason why H&R will be making their own barrels, H&R hasn't got the centerfire rifle barrel production schedule from Marlin yet, except for the Huntsman which is scheduled for the first quarter 2010, I'll post when they get an updated schedule.

Matt, my H&R contact has stated they will fit 357 and 44 mag barrels to those frames, I don't recollect anyone stating they got one, probably because they may not know, I do know that one person was refused a 45-70 barrel, that's how we first learned about it.

Just got an update on accessory barrels production, they don't expect very many until March/April.  :'(
