Buddy finally got his first yote!!
« on: December 22, 2009, 04:53:55 AM »
It finally happened this morning.  My buddy finally got to successfully kill his first called in dog.  We went out at first light.  I set up my brand spanking new Preymaster PM4 about 20yds upwind of me and put my hunting buddy about 200yds downwind in the same weedline I was in.  When we could see good enough to shoot, I let the PM4 start doing its majic.  Nothing seemed interested in the Grown Cottontail sound so I switched to one of my favorites- The Yellowhammer.  10 minutes into the stand and the first set of the Yellowhammer, I hear my bud's rifle go off-twice.  I look down wind and I see him with hands in the air jumping up and down screaming his head off with joy.

I run down there and see a Song dog laying about 60yds in front of him.  We slap high fives and he tells me that as soon as I turned on the Yellowhammer, three Yotes came at a full sprint towards him from about 350yds downwind of him in the same weed line he and I was in.  We still cannot figure out how they did not smell us.  He said that the yote slammed the brakes on 30yds from him and was staring at him.  They then did what I call the "P.H.R." (Paranoid by Hungry Retreat- walking away but continuing to look back at what they were hoping was food).  My bud sent a 110gr HP from his 30-06 right up the tail pipe of the dog (Texas Heart style ;)) and it did the bitting spin.  He sent one more through the boiler room (didn't need to after looking at the dog) and turned it's light out.

It turned out to be a 30-35lb male.  We are going to clean the skull for a euro mount.  It has nice K9s.
It's all a hot mess...........

Gettin the first one is where you catch the fever. I caught it in about 1970 with a called in yote with a 20lb Johnny Stewart RECORD PLAYER, and a 45 rpm scratchy record. My rifle was a Model 94 Winchester 3030. The caller was borrowed, but I still got the Winchester. It will be 52 years old in a month.

Well Swift, they were crude as well as old school, and coyotes weren't as well educated. I think probably their harder to call now by a long shot.

Seems like the Red Fox got harder to call after the Coyotes were here for a few years...The Fox seems to live closer to the suburbs & towns these days.

The Coyotes started showing up around here in 1972 mainly witnessed by some of the farmers. Some called them wild dogs while others called them wolves. The general public was very skeptical of these reports until 75' or 76' rolled around.

Congratulations on your buddy's first Coyote, he will be hooked now as said.
