Refinishing question

Have a marlin 1894 in .357 that has been plated, most likely nickel but possibly hard chromed.  Is it possible to have this removed and another finsih applied?  Would it be best to just have it camo dipped or another baked on finish applied?

I also need to have the carrier fixed to cure the "jam" so I'm thinking this was a CAS gun at one time.

As to the 'jam' that could well be caused by a lot of use.. It is basically damage to the stopping edge of the lifter caused by wear, impact and a bit of poor design.. Plating can usually be removed but the substrates may not be pretty.. Of course if replating it should not create too much of a problem. I don't know what you're looking for so can't speak to what's best but black chrome is neat and one of the Armaloy type hard chrome finishes can add a lot of rust resistance to a carry rifle.. If it's simply too shiney a simple Black-T or other baked on finish should work and will solve the light color problem with the least outlay of cash.. Of course if its just the color powder coating the exterior can be used to solve the problem very ecconomically.

Check the "loading spring (gate) screw" it may be loose.  Do not over tighten.  It breaks pretty easy.  These guns normally need a bullet profile that feeds easy or they will jam.

Black T or similar would be fine as far as finish goes.  It don't have to be pretty, just functional.  I'll check the loading gate screw.
