My opinion is that the shotgun slug rule for deer hunting is a big factor. That is, the shotgun slug law made drive hunting the most effective method for most hunters. With drive hunting there tends to be a lot of fast shooting at running deer, without a lot of time to think about wether or not the shot is in a safe direction. Sunday I was out with a buddy and we were cleaning some rabbits we got when some shooting started up. We finished up our cleaning ASAP and got out of the area as we did not want to have any slugs getting close to us. Of course the slug gun regulations were not a factor in the guy shooting himself in the knee. I don't know why some people always keep their guns pointed in a safe direction and why some folks seem to always get their guns pointed in the wrong place.
