My Bi-pod mounted Contender.
« on: December 02, 2009, 01:29:09 PM »
Since Im getting older,my hands are getting a bit shakey.  Not a hunter and all I shoot are targets, the regular bench rested pistol idea really wasnt all that stable. Back a while ago, I posted a question about mounting a bi-pod to the forward grip. Member ,Ladobe said it was possible and gave many helpfull tips on mounting.
Many thanks to " Ladobe" and here is what it looks like now.
Off to the range this weekend !

Could you maybe post up some info on how you did it? I just recieved one of these on trade and would like to mount it also.  Thanks!

Myself, I just removed the sling stud mounting mechanism from the bipod. Removed the forward grip screw, went to my local Ace hardware store. Bought a  1 inch long stainless 10/32 cross tip screw.Added a small lock washer and a larger flat washer to cover the hole in the bi-pod and tightened it down.
Its worked well for my 357,very stable and secure.

you can use a machine screw style swivel stud and it is a direct replacement for the forearm screw. You can also use it as a sling stud.
see topic here about the stud  http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,188643.0.html

Thought you might like to see my 357 Max contender with bipod mounted.
I first tried the stud mounted in the forearm screw hole and found that it was hard to get the stud straight with the proper torque consistently.
As you can see in the picture, I just drilled another hole and recessed the back side to allow clearance for the nut to the barrel.
A little lock-tight on the stud and it has worked great.

Good Idea TC Scout, Im betting the added distance gives some more stability as compared to mine.
Since your obviously interested in accuracy,, what sort of groups do you shoot in the max ?

Lager, still working on bullet/powder combos. 50yd groups are about 1", 100 yd gets alot worse, around 3 inchs.
Probably the shooter more than the gun or loads. Only got the max barrel last year, but did manage to take a nice 7 point last year. This year is ZIP :'(

TC scout, dont short change your shooting ability to quickly.
Ive had to do a lot of testing to get my Mag barrel to that group.
Different OAL made a big difference especially since, both the Mag and max barrels have large 'leade" or throat distance from barrel to barrel.
Powder charge and brands made a difference too.
Even the crimp makes a difference. Ive experimented with light, medium and a factory roll crimp die that Lee sells. My best result concerning crimp was a slight taper but your results may vary.
Im not a hunter, but I used to be. Sorry to hear about your bad season.
Guess you dont want to hear about this 15 year old girl here in Rowan county that shot a 6 pt from her stand.
Then shot a 192 lb 7 pt with in minutes of the first one.
She made the newspaper here with that pic.
Guess hunting is like real estate,, location and location, that and a bit of luck.
