In my other post on Sarah Palins Op Ed article on global warming therre was a link to a poll asking peoples opinion on global warming.  About 65% of the respondents thought global warming was a political agenda driven sham and I wondered where the folks here on GB would stand on the subject.

We got it here today (Northern VT).  It snowed yesterday a little bit, and this morning the sun is shining.  The thermometer on my front porch is right at zero degrees.  Old Al Gore's coming by later to collect for the global warming fund, I hear.  Next thing you know the dinosaurs will be coming back and we can all dust off our shortymags and go tyrannosaur hunting.

The weather forecasters are talking about a "wintry mix" and a high temp of 340 in the Charlotte, NC area for tomorrow.  I for one have my doubts about this global warming thing.

man, are you out of touch.  its not called global warming anymore, especially since it has gotten colder.  it is now climate change so if it gets hotter or colder they can say "told you so".

The best way to bring this thing to some sort of conclusion is for those who believe in man-caused global warming to be assessed a special tax to pay for what it takes to fix the problem.  Those who don't believe there is anything we can do about it even if it is true should be exempted from the tax.  And those who want some global warming should be compensated with cash  from the fund if warming does not occur.  Which group would be the largest?

The poll didn't have enough choices.  The Sham choice is what the whole thing has become, but it is possible that warming might be the long term trend.  That is--until the beginning of the next Ice Age.  And that will come just as sure as death and taxes--if we don't get hit by an astroid first.

One major volcano eruption and we won't have a summer for a couple of years.  Global warming would go right out the window, along with all the heat.

front page artical here today that stated if the ice caps melt the sea level will go up 25-30 ft. I really do not know how much ice is there but I've spent a lot of time at sea and I think this is pure B.S. there is a lot of area to raise my guess would be 1 ft absolute max. Many thousands of square mile of ocean surface, every one of which you have to raise an inch to get an inch raise at the shore line.

When the Romans invaded Briton in the first century they came ashore and set up an elaborate camp just above the shoreline. The loction of that site is known. It is 3 miles inland today. Henry the VIII built England's first coastal defence forts in the fifteenth century, They are now about a mile and a half inland. What did we do to cause that?

The planet Mars may be warming a bit. Where are we on that one?

When the Pacific continental plate slides under the North American plate it takes with it calcite. When calcite is heated, it generates a variety of greenhouse gasses. Let's send a couple of trillion dollars to Africa to fix that?

Aviation historians sought a P-36 aircraft that had a forced landing in Greenland and was abandoned. That was 1944. They found it crushed under 256 feet of ice. Where the hell did all that snow come from?

Inconvient facts

Real science tells us it may warm up, it may cool off, all we can do is prepare for it. There is nothing, NOTHING we can do to prevent anything.

Man caused climate change is an obvious hoax, it is very disappointing that it has ever been given any serious consideration.

Al Gore at climate talks: Polar ice may go in 5 years

By The Associated Press

December 14, 2009

New computer modeling suggests the Arctic Ocean may be nearly ice-free in the summertime as early as 2014, Al Gore said Monday at the U.N. climate conference.

This new projection, following several years of dramatic retreat by polar sea ice, suggests that the ice cap may nearly vanish in the summer much sooner than the year 2030, as was forecast by a U.S. government agency eight months ago.

One U.S. government scientist Monday questioned the new prediction as too severe, but other researchers previously have projected a quicker end than 2030 to the Arctic summer ice cap.

"It is hard to capture the astonishment that the experts in the science of ice felt when they saw this," said former U.S. Vice President Gore, who joined Scandinavian officials and scientists to brief journalists and delegates. It was Gore's first appearance at the two-week conference.

The group presented two new reports updating fast-moving developments in Antarctica, the autonomous Danish territory of Greenland, and the rest of the Arctic.

"The time for collective and immediate action on climate change is now," said Denmark's foreign minister, Per Stig Moeller.

But delegates from 192 nations were bogged down in disputes over key issues. This further dimmed hopes for immediate action to cut more deeply into global emissions of greenhouse gases.

Gore and Danish ice scientist Dorthe Dahl Jensen clicked through two slide shows for a standing-room-only crowd of hundreds in a side event at the Bella Center conference site.

One report, on the Greenland ice sheet, was issued by the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program, an expert group formed by eight Arctic governments, including the United States. The other, commissioned by Gore and Norway's government, was compiled by the Norwegian Polar Institute on the status of ice melt worldwide.

Average global temperatures have increased 0.74 degrees C (1.3 degrees F) in the past century, but the mercury has risen at least twice as quickly in the Arctic. Scientists say the makeup of the frozen north polar sea has shifted significantly in recent years as much of the thick multiyear ice has given way to thin seasonal ice.

In the summer of 2007, the Arctic ice cap dwindled to a record-low minimum extent of 4.3 million square kilometers (1.7 million square miles) in September. The melting in 2008 and 2009 was not as extensive, but still ranked as the second- and third-greatest decreases on record.

Last April, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted that Arctic summers could be almost ice-free within 30 years, not at the 21st century's end as earlier predicted.

Gore cited new scientific work at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, whose Arctic ice research is important for planning polar voyages by Navy submarines. The computer modeling there stresses the "volumetric," looking not just at the surface extent of ice but its thickness as well.

"Some of the models suggest that there is a 75 percent chance that the entire north polar ice cap during some of the summer months will be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years," Gore said. His office later said he meant nearly ice-free, because ice would be expected to survive in island channels and other locations.

Asked for comment, one U.S. government scientist questioned what he called this "aggressive" projection.

"It's possible but not likely," said Mark Serreze of the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado. "We're sticking with 2030."

On the other hand, a leading NASA ice scientist, Jay Zwally, said last year that the Arctic could be essentially ice-free within "five to less than 10 years."

Meanwhile, what's happening to Greenland's titanic ice sheet "has really surprised us," said Jensen of the University of Copenhagen.

She cited one huge glacier in west Greenland, at Jakobshavn, that in recent years has doubled its rate of dumping ice into the sea. Between melted land ice and heat expansion of ocean waters, the sea-level rise has increased from 1.8 millimeters a year to 3.4 millimeters (.07 inch a year to .13 inch) in the past 10 years.

Jensen said the biggest ice sheets — Greenland and West Antarctica — were already contributing 1 millimeter (.04 inch) a year to those rising sea levels. She said this could double within the next decade.

"With global warming, we have woken giants," she said.

Unfiltered satellite data  indicates global cooling since 1998.

Polar ice clearing in 2006 was largely due to high winds. In 2007 it came back. Every source of date mentioned by Comrade Gore has been caught juiceing the figures. Yes, including NASA and NOAA. They have quietly admitted it. Why are they so quik to shun debate?

This data sham is really beside the point. The point is; How is socialism going to prevent anything? If it gets warmer and it may, we can do nothing to prevent anything. When the time comes we should adjust to the new conditions.

An inconvient fact; Atmospheric dynamics are beyond our ability to influence.

Bear in mind: 1994, Mt. Penatumbo in the Phillipines vented more greenhouse gas than the entire efforts of mankind. That can only be solved by taxing American industry out of existence?  Wake up.

Good post P.A. You have further demonstrate the stupidity of Big Al and his mentors. When the real scientists (those who are open to debate) relay the facts to the socialist global warming groupies, they are shunned from their scientific community for pointing out the same data that you have cited. Global warming as a problem caused by humans is nothing but a ploy for control, power, and huge amounts of money being made by those who advocate for it.

Good Morning Torpedoman,

It started at 8 below here on this sunny morning, and it's quickly risen to 9 above.  That global warming must be kicking in.  I'll still call it global warming because "climate change" is just a new name for the Leftistliberalsocialist pigs to hide behind.  By the way--since you're wearing your life jacket while walking your dog, what are you doing for your dog?  You going to let him drown while you swim?  I would think you'd want a life jacket for your best buddy as well!

It's the new religion of the idiots.  The recent release of the emails that show deception and collusion should have ended this.  The fact that it didn't says a lot.

Personally, I believe the Good Lord is in charge.

Recently I read an archaeology article about excavations in Greenland.  Many, many feet below the ice, they reached the site of Viking settlements.  There the residents grew grapes, made wine, caught fish, and had gardens.  Yep...1000 years ago, Greenland was green.

In a recent TV show, a reporter stood on the rocky shore not long vacated by ice, telling of the shrinking sea ice.  Just to his left, and plainly visible was a tree stump with axe marks in it.......ponder that for a while.

Heck, we might find similar in Antarctica soon....

I've read elsewhere that the Buache map has notes on it that indicate it was copied from an older one. Who knows how many times it had been copied previously, how old the original was or who made it.

Anyway, bring on that global warming so we can go down there with a copy of the Declaration of Independence & Constitution and have us a do-over.

In a book "Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings", the author takes an indepth look at ancient maps and notes the ability of those ancient mariners to navigate and map the shores of the land masses.  It seems that they were extremely accurate and advanced in their ability.
These people are considered simple by many.

In the book there is mapping of parts of North and South America and Antarctica.  The ancient maps show mouths of tributaries coming off that continent and several miles of the tributaries themselves.  It also depicts glacial activity over parts of Europe and North America.

It's a dry read but but worth it.  What is written flies in the face of much of secular humanistic evolutionary teaching.

Keep in mind that Ice Ages are preceeded by and generated by an open Arctic Ocean amongst other "natural--not man-caused--phenomenon."  Man has no sway with nature at this level.  Imagine that.
