Hello,
I am loading for a new(to Me) cartridge;the 300 Savage.
It shot very well with jacketed bullets, when I cheeked it out.
It also did well enough with my introduction cast bullets.
However,I discovered that my 180 grain hunting bullets leave the base below the neck about.0020 when the cartridge OL is at the limit;2.600.
I have always believed that this is a 'nono',and that view is shared by others that I met on the Web.
I can't find any printed material to back this up.Can anyone mention an Authority on this? Or,better yet, share your experience with shooting paper patched bullets with the base below the case neck?
My first attempt to cope with this problem is to fill the case with PuffLon filler,to protect the base,a little.
Thanks,
Frank

Hello,again
I dug up some Authoratative data.
E.H.Harrison,as much an Authority that there is,has written in the American Rifleman about seating the paper patched bullet below the case neck.
In March, and again,inAugust of 1972,he stated that it will destroy accuracy.
A dagger to my heart.
