I dont reload for the .40 or 10 mm but I would think that the .40 would be too short for the 10 I thought that they both head spaced on the shell casing length.   Jim

I shoot a 10mm but in a Glock, don't know how that would work out really! The best snake medication I have found so far, besides a shotgun would be that new JUDGE. I have tested the 3 inch pistol and with .410 shells it is very deadly. I don't see any rattlesnake getting past 2 shots out of that pistol at 15 feet. ;D

It ain't gonna be a good thing, as stated before, the cases headspace on the mouth, and the .40 S&W is a lot shorter.

Yes, the issue is that you could bust up the extractor on your Glock, the way we used to bust up extractors on older Star and Astra pistols chambered in 9mm Largo/38 Super when we would shoot the shorter 9mm Luger ammo through them.

Both the 40 S&W and 10mm headspace on the case mouth - the 40 being shorter is only held in place by the extractor and two things could happen - one is that you could bust up the extractor and then you are scrued, as they say.  The second is that you could ring your chamber shooting the 40s so that a 10mm would not chamber.

Two recommendations - either load your own snakeshot (say that fast 3 times) into your 10mm cases or purchase 10mm snakeshot, or purchase a 40 S&W barrel to shoot 40 S&W snakeshot.

I'm now wondering if a 410 shotgun wad cup would hold enough shot to be useful against snakes and/or if it would be too big for the bore to accurately take to the rifling and throw the shot accurately.  HTH.

What I learned about shotshells for snakes in a handgun is you have to get pretty close for the shot to do any good. You can get close enough to blow their head off with just the muzzle blast of ANY round and still be out of reach from getting bit.You don't even need to hit 'em with the bullet.Haven't used a shotshell since.
