The countdown begins
« on: October 30, 2003, 06:58:45 PM »
Our season opens Saturday, the anticipation is finally starting to kick in.
Last year an inch of ice covered evrything so the open water season only lasted a few days. The 10 day out look appears pretty good ,with highs in the low 40s and only a couple of nights in the 20s.As always weather is a major factor --the differance between an outstanding season or one that is just so-so.
I will keep everyone posted as to how things are going----I hope everyone else does the same.
It is OUR TIME of the year.;Good luck and Enjoyment to all.  Tom

Wacky, the waders and hippers I used for goose hunting ,kept the water out.But I am going to get a new pair of waders today. There is nothing worse than a wet body do to poor equpment,so I start each season with a new pair of waders. My older ones will serve as back up ,--funny I have about 6 pair of back up waders ,and 3 pair of back up hippers.
I have tried hippers twice on my fall line, each time I ended up wet up to my waist----so I now save the hippers---for strictly spring beavering.

Bog

Goodluck on your upcoming season.  It is cool here tonight.  Talking 9 for a low tonight and barely making it to 30 for the next couple days.  I started setting today and sure didn't enjoy the snow flurry, then thaw, then snow flurry, thaw and so on till I quit for the night.  I give up on dirt sets and went to grass sets.  Not expecting great results but for coon/skunks should catch a few.  Once this weather settles , I will go back in with dirt and redo the sets.  I only have a week.  Give me warm or cold as I can live with that.  This inbetween weather with flurries/sprinkles bites but it sure beats working and I am really enjoying the time off!!   :-)

Good luck Tom.  The open water is going to come to an end in a hurry up here.  It was 14 degrees this morn.  and maybe got to 27 for a high.  They say 14 for a low tonight and and twelve for a low on Sun.  I dont think it is supposed to get above freezing all week.  Sure makes me happy that I dont trap south of hwy 200 lol.  It is too bad that we dont wait for the fur to "prime" to start trapping than I would never have to dig another pocket set again.   Did get an otter this morning so not all is lost but the coon trapping is going to get tough guess will just have to get excited for deer season.
