While we are dreaming I'd like to have a .50-70 barrel for Christmas.

Just curious what one might use a 50-70 for? Bear? Hogs?  That's a whole lot of gun.

Anything you'd use the .45-70 for.

50-140...ohhh baby!  :D

What advantage does the 50-70 have over 45-70?

None really it's just different.  I'm not interested in barrels longer than 22" or blackpowder so the bigger 50-140 and the 45-120 would be a waste of time for me.

I'm building one. Got a 50 cal liner and turned it to fit a 16 ga shot gun. Cut a couple dove tails for some vintage looking sights. Added a fore arm from a H&R muzzle loader, filled the ram rod channel added a barrel band spring to hold the barrel ban in place. I changed the butt plate to a vintage looking steel one. I have yet to cut the chamber and add a saddle ring. It looks like a carbine circa 1880 or so. Progress is slow due to life's little hurdles. Hope to shoot it this sping.
going to use BP.

I'd like to see that.  I'm suprised the dovetails didn't cut into the liner.
