Which Paint...
« on: October 22, 2003, 06:22:58 AM »
I know that one of the teflon coating is best but I prefer not to have to disassemble a rifle and send it out just to get a dark finish on a barrel.

The gun has black stock, furniture and handguard and a stainless barrel (AR15 flavor).  I would really like to get rid of the bright silver tube sticking out of the handguard but want something that is going to "stay put) and not flake off the stainless steel.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...
DonT

DonT :  I have seen a few rifles that have been powder coated and was somewhat impressed with the results, you might look into some of the auto repair shops in your area and see if they know of a shop that does powder coating, the ones I have seen come in various colors and textures and I have been looking forem a knock around type piece to have this process done to, you can try these guys who are in my part of the country and see if by chanch they know of someone in your area.  C/C powder coating Brad Clark 870-215-8766 or Allen Crosno 870-215-8767 hope this has been of help :D    JIM

DonT,

Try this link . It may be of some help. I used this finish on my Ruger 10/22 action and it is holding up very well. It also comes in several colors and is extremely easy to get good results. I just ordered some in olive drab for my next project. :D

I am thinking of refinishing a Mauser bolt action. I'm assuming you don't want this stuff to get into the chamber ? How do you seal the chamber so you apply this stuff to the inside of the receiver?

chazgin,

I would probably plug with an fired empty case inserted. I know people are careful all the time, right.    But double check the empty. Remove shortly after spraying and before baking.
