RF pressure signs?
« on: December 20, 2009, 05:28:38 PM »
I posted this on RF central, but one of you guys may have done this to one of the H&R's as they are very simular rifles, so here is the question:

Long story shortened up some, Bought a Rossi 22LR/410 Youth combo, cut up the shotgun barrel and put a .223 barrel in it and chambered it for 22 Hornet, this works great. Now the question: The RF barrel was a Microgroove rifled barrel, it seems to have a fairly tight bore, the Hornet reamer pilot will not go in it. However my 22 Mag reamer pilot went in easily, so I just rechambered it to 22 WMR. I have fired it a few times (from a safe distance) and it seems fine, I used the CCI MaxiMags with the plated bullets, I cannot see any problems with the fired cases, they don't fly out of the chamber, but I can pull them out with my fingers after fireing. None have pierced or split, the gun is fine, so what would be signs of an overpressure on a RF case? Larry

A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

How about this?:

You can see that some of the case heads are not quite flat anymore.
I actually don't know if this is signs of over-pressure, or insufficient lag on bolt blowback.  These are 17M2 cases fired from a T/C R55.

I guess mine look better than those do.  I measured the diameter of .22 LR bullets and the .22 Mag bullet and they measure near the same, the LR is slightly larger at .2245 and the Mag bullet is .2235.  Interesting I guess.  I would say that the buldged case heads are from the bolt blowing back too soon.  Larry
