I saw some "homies" at the local range two weeks ago. Needless to say I was scared of being shot in the back. They were creepy, not at all responsive to courtesy, crazy looking, and lacked any sense of weapons handling. When I first learned to shoot I at least had the sense to NOT point the muzzle at people intentionally or otherwise- apparently that's not a constant for most people. Anyways, they were holding their pistol by the slide and carrying it around with the muzzle pointing to their rears, waving it around and pointing with it (finger still on the trigger), obviously weren't at all knowledgable about the safeties and mechanical aspects of the machine, tried to "bo-blast" like a "gangsta" with a sideways grip and were also pumping their arms while shooting (I THINK that came from westerns- since arm movement was incidental when fan-firing or quickly cocking and firing dual duel pistols), they would cock their heads back and to the sides to see the sights instead of indexing the sights to their linear sight plane, jerked the trigger as fast as possible, used poor form and locked up their shoulder blades instead of their forearms to support that heavy 1 1/2lb polymer pistol.... I had them shoot my handi in 45-70 and tried to be nice enough that they would allow me the courtesy of checking my 50yd target without them simultaneously firing in the neighboring lane (they'd miss and probably skip a few rounds into my legs). They were nice enough once I got them talking and shared their gun too, but I was legitimately scared that they'd have an nd and bleed me due to it (I didn't see an nd the whole time though). I was hard pressed to NOT slip into hateful, racist thinking. I did remain pleasant throughout and probably taught them to use that pistol to protect themselves a bit better, definitely gave them an idea about how to conduct themselves on a public range with proper courtesy and situational awareness, but I doubt it was enough. Someday soon there will be a negligent discharge or accident from those people. I sincerely hope that the family DOES learn more comprehensive martial skills but jumping around like a bunch of you know whats and acting foolish leads me to believe otherwise. I did my part to do the right thing for everyone involved but I'm more racist after seeing that incident. I know that being a former marine I have extreme discipline and situational awareness (pertaining to how I handle a weapon) relative to "average" citizens and cannot expect that of all, but I do expect common sense. I almost understand why demcrats fear guns now, if I were ignorant of guns then I'd be completely scared of those people having them too. I know I sound like a jerk being that specific about their innept and grossly incompetent ways but it was bothering me so much I wanted to make a post on it before, now i'm just adding onto this one. I don't think racism is the way but seeing all that BET, MTV and other gangsta phenomena, then seeing it myself from well-meaning non-criminals even, I do feel a bit more "discriminating" and will probably just drive right on by the next time I see someone that doesn't look like me at the range.
