SBH Front Sight
« on: December 12, 2009, 01:37:47 PM »
I think I am going to get a new SBH 5.5" and I was curious if the front sight can be replaced?  On the SS models it looks like the front is pinned and could be replaced with a fiber optic front, can you do anything to replace the front sight on the blued models?  I am not a fan of black front sights, I have a hard time picking them up in the woods.

Thanks

I think I've replaced the pinned front sights by driving out the pin but the blued ones look like they need a gunsmith's help to replace.  I'll bet most people have a smith install a fancy radiused front sight that is set up for easy front blade replacement.  Probably a worthwhile endeaver.

I think the SBH Hunter, GP 100, Redhawk & SRH all use  a front sight that is removable w/o tools:  A spring-plunger affair that works well.
Vote them all out, EVERY election!

Does anyone remember the scene from "Quigley Down Under" showing the aborigines lined up on the skyline as far as you could see?   That needs to be US!

Bowen has a system for replacing the "one piece" sights with a removable blade style.

A milling machine is the tool of choice for the modification.

The front sights on the blued Super Blackhawks are silver soldered to the barrel so they are not easy  to replace. As others have mentioned there are aftermarket sights but they will require milling, or soldering, or both to install.

Thanks guys.  The SBH is on hold for now, the dealer and I could not get together on the price of his used 7.5" SBH.
