From the dump
« on: October 26, 2003, 10:56:00 AM »
 'Was unloading my trash at the dump last week when the attendant asked me if I had a .45, while holding up a couple of pistol magazines.  I said, "yes", and walked over to see what he was talking about.  Somebody had brought these three GI magazines, still loaded, with a bag of loose ammo to be disposed of.  All of the ammo was GI ball and head stamped from 33 to 42 and the mag's. were full of dust and cobwebs!  He let me have them, and I just had to wonder, "I hope they didn't throw away the pistol!"  He said, "It does happen."

Dump Finds

Shorty - I got myself a 98 Mauser like that once.  It was leaning against a pile of stuff the new owners of a house had cleaned out of the basement when they moved in.  It appeared to be a WWII bring-back and I just walked on over and put it in my trunk as the garbage truck was driving up.  I never fired it but traded it for a P17 Enfield.  Sometimes ya get lucky.  I did, and it sounds like you did too.  Good find.  Mikey.
