Got one down Saturday morning
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:16:07 AM »
Well I settled in before daylight just in the treeline of the upper pasture.  I put myself in an area to watch both the clear cut that runs the power poles, and the pasture itself.  I used my Johnny Stewart Howler and then the Controled Predator Call.

Waited about 30 minutes for little miss blondie to make her presence, to find herself blessed with a 32 gr V Max gift from the .204 Ruger.

Sorry there is no picture of the female coyote but for some reason my camera batteries took a dive right when I needed them the most.

What I did get pictures of before hand was the area that I do some hunting in, here in the Flathead Valley of Montana.

Congrats. It's always a good feeling to call in and smack a Coyote.

Way To Go! Good thing you weren't depending on an E-caller :D
You can't use that battery excuse again for no pictures  :(
How far was she and did she drop right there? Handi rifle? What scope? Your first Yote?
Congrats. Looks like a great area to be in. ;)

Oh! That camo beard fits right in with your coat and hood ;D I'm trying one of those myself :D

The range to the opening is 100 yards, and yes it was a DRT shot to the boiler room.  Those 32-gr V Max bullets out of a .204 Ruger just don't mess around on the dogs.  I had a Primo's Predator E Caller with me, but I decided to just use my hand calls on this hunt.... I like them better for the sound quality.

Rifle used was my Handi Rifle with the .204 Ruger barrel scoped with a BSA Sweet .223 3x12x40mm.

This will mark coyote #2, as the first one was some years ago while whitetail hunting with my son when he was younger.  I just recently got serious about dedicating some time predator hunting after seeing what is happening to our whitetail herds.  I have one guy that I know, that begged me to come on down to his place anytime I want to.  He said I can nail as many of them as I want to, and since he is 100% bowhunter, he does not own a firearm and actually begged me to come on down.

Of course I will take him up on this offer  ;D

I'd be on my way to your buddys place soon. You should try to decoy one in for him to shoot with his bow. Bet he'd enjoy that. You have a nice area there. It's hard to get permission around here anymore. >:( Good Luck and Enjoy!

Wondered about the bigger predators munching on you but you answered that in your other post ;)

Congrat's  8)

I am ready to hunt but we have 40degree temps and much rain (read much mud). Suppose to get very cold by the weekend though which will firm up that footing.
