try domed pellets

try domed pellets like the Crosman Premiers. Some really like Crow Magnum pellets.  The important thing is what shoots best in your gun.  There is an outfit called Straight Shooters who sell a sampler of 18 different types of .22 pellets (25 each type) to test in your gun- find them on line but you have to call or fax to make an order.  I just ordered the 22 sampler from them and have used their .177 cal sampler which has 36 different types if my memory serves.  Then you can buy what works best in your gun.  I read that pointed pellets tend to lose accuracy at longer distances and flat point lose velocity. At very close range I have shot a few small red squirrels with flat point .177 pellets with very good effect - almost better than with .22 rf.  Maybe some more experienced hunters like Echochap will chime in.  He's done a bunch of air gun hunting.

I assume you are hunting squirrels/dove for the pot, crows because they are fun and a challenge.  My experience is that for birds I get more instant kills with flat head(wad cutter target type) pellets.  They seem to deliver more shock to the birds and not just fly thru like pointed and doomed pellets do.  Doomed and pointed pellets penetrate deeper than most but on birds penetration isn't necessary as even crows are not that big.  Squirrels can be tough, very tough.  Head shots are preferred but not always an option.  This is why I use a good hollow point hunting pellet on all the small game I hunt with my air rifle.  I use the Beeman Crow Magnum pellet for everything but birds.  For birds I use K&N wad cutter target pellets.  For a report on pellets got to http://home.hiwaay.net/~ispellan/PelletTest02.htmland see the results.  Hope this helps.  Lawdog

A lot depends on the distance you plan to shoot

If they are close under 25 yards then yes the wadcutter pellets like the crosman wadcrtters in bulk pac at walmart will do well. If distances are longer you will have to go to either crosman of some other baand dome head pellets they fly straighter and hit harder at distance. Do not waist your money on fance pointed pellets as there tend to vastly over penatrate and are not as accurate as the dome shaped pellets.
